Free workshop this Sunday (1st May)

Art In The Park are holding a free workshop in Burgess Park this Sunday (1st May) to make bunting for the “MayFair” which will be held later in the month.

The workshop runs from 12 midday until 4pm at Art In The Park, at Chumleigh Gardens (near to the café) in Burgess Park. All are welcome, although children under 8 must be accompanied.

If you’re interested in local art projects you can book a tour (including a free lunch!) of projects underway in the local area.

It’s organised by Peckham Space and South London Gallery, and will be visiting four venues across South East London to start a debate on urban environments and changing social histories.

Several artists will be on the tour speaking about their work including David Cotterrell who’s been collaborating with EQRA on a social history art project based around our area.

Although it’s free you do need to book in advance as spaces are limited.

Memories of North Peckham – we need you!

Peckham Space, the art gallery in Peckham Square is collaborating with EQRA in a new and unusual art project to be shown next summer 2011.

Artist David Cotterrell will be creating a social history art project that aims to capture the transformation of our area. It’s a really original approach: a video installation featuring footage shot from an airborne, remote-controlled camera flying over our heads.

Do you have stories of how North Peckham has changed over the years? If so we want to hear from you.

We are looking for residents who have lived in North Peckham for over 20 years to be involved in this social history project at Peckham Space.

Your stories will feature in a film of the area that will be on exhibition at Peckham Space from May – July 2011.

Peckham – Art Hotspot!

After the Peckham Space and the new South London Gallery extension comes NewGallery London in Pelican House.

Situated at 92 Peckham Road, just at the junction with Southampton Way, is the latest addition to Peckham’s cultural and nightlife.

NEW GALLERY’S format of café, bar, gallery and bookshop aims to maintain a lively and dynamic atmosphere – and will run a programme of group and solo shows as well as hosting events, talks and performances.

Peckham getting trendy?

A brand new café has opened within the South London Gallery on Peckham Road.

“No. 67″ boasts trendy decor, reasonably priced (ish) food and a nice garden to relax in. Exhibitions within the gallery are free.

Café opening hours:

Monday – CLOSED
Tuesday – Sunday, 10am-6.30pm
Except Wednesdays, 10am-9pm

Peckham rooftop bar back for 2010

Frank’s Cafe – the bar that opened last summer in the car park on the roof of the Peckhamplex cinema is back – opening on the 2 July.

As happened last year, there’s an arty flavour to proceedings with the venue hosting Bold Tendancies : Sculpture Project 4

The cafe will be open Thurdays – Sundays 11am to 10pm
