Left behind by the 63

Regular users of the 63 bus from the St Georges Way stop will be all-too-familiar with being left behind by buses which are already packed.

Over the last 2 years EQRA has raised this problem on a number of occasions with TfL. Disappointingly, TfL have responded that they are satisfied that capacity is adequate.

We have now compiled a video which might help to challenge TfL’s view.

If you find you are being left behind by the 63, or have any other problems with our local bus services, please complain to TfL – and keep complaining every time it happens as this will help maintain the pressure to sort the problem out. TfL’s contact details are:

Artist flies remote copter above North Peckham

Artist David Cotterrell took to the skies above EQRA properties with his remote control helicopter last week.

It’s part of his ‘Slipstream‘ project, commissioned by Peckham Space in collaboration with EQRA, which aims to document and contrast the changing landscape of our area.

EQRA was there to film some of the activity taking place in the sky above the Gloucester School playground last week.

The results of the project go on show at Peckham Space arts centre at the end of May, but we hope to have some of the aerial footage already filmed to show you before then!

Ambucopter in Calypso Gardens

The Virgin Helicopter Ambulance landed in the middle of Calypso Gardens on Sunday afternoon in answer to a shooting.

Residents are shocked to hear about another violent incident happening on our doorstep.

EQRA Artist wants your ideas about Peckham

Yesterday saw the opening of the Peckham Space art project in the centre of Peckham.

It’s a project EQRA is closely associated with having been part of the selection panel to choose the first artist – David Cotterell – to be given the chance to design an exhibition specifically for the space.

David Cotterell’s idea is to use a remote controlled miniature helicopter to fly above Peckham taking high resolution images of the area, and building a project comparing them with images and memories from Peckham’s past.

Burgess Park plans in the media

LDA’s Burgess Park redevelopment plans have attracted media attention, with reports on BBC London News and ITV News on Friday.

The issue they focused on – a new amphitheatre in the park – appears to be somewhat of a side issue compared to the bulk of the plans.

The report features Councillor Barrie Hargrove, and Donnachadh McCarthy (Burgess Park Action Group) who argues the plans will mean the bulldozing of some natural areas of the park. This isn’t really a fair interpretation, as it’s not the Amphitheatre plans but the re-sculpturing plans that will mean losing some wild areas of the park.

EQRA’s position is that we are generally desperate for the plans to go ahead, and feel the benefits of the new spaces created far outweigh the loss of some areas which many members actually felt were in need of attention anyway.

Peckham Fire – suspected gas explosion

The fire at a Peckham Building site is thought to have started from a gas explosion on a building site. Over 300 people have now been evacuated. The fire started between 4 and 4:30am and there was a definite loud explosion heard by witnesses at about 4:40am, after emergency services had begun arriving.

A huge plume of smoke was seen billowing in the air, several times higher than surrounding buildings.

Boris – ‘Yet Another’ set of Transport Plans

Mayor Boris Johnson outlined his plans for transport in South London with rumours of extensions to the Bakerloo Line possibly coming this way.

The general consensus is that the plans were long on gloss and short on details. ITV London Tonight made a package about the proposals and spoke to our very own EQRA Chair Phil Bale in Burgess Park.
