If you live or work in SE15, SE5 or SE14, then you are eligible to display a picture in Open 2011 at Peckham Space. Your piece must be 2-D (sorry, no sculptures) and have a thematic connection with the area. Just bring in your painting on 19th November between 11 and 4.

The organisers have been collecting other stories from local people about their memories and experiences of the North Peckham Estate. These testimonies are being added to an interactive map and, when the exhibition is over, will become a permanent part of the Southwark Archive – housed at Newington Library on Walworth Road.

Evolution and South Quarter are both relatively new estates, but do you remember the North Peckham Estate as it was before our homes were built? Did you previously live on the North Peckham Estate or know someone who did? Do you remember the high-rise walkways?

If you do have a story to tell or a photo to show, you can drop these into Peckham Space or email them to info@peckhamspace.com with ‘MEMORIES OF NORTH PECKHAM ESTATE’ in the subject line.

You’re also invited to take part in an event ‘Memories of  North Peckham’ on 16th July from 2-4pm, where residents can meet one another and discuss their memories over free tea and biscuits.

It’s part of his ‘Slipstream‘ project, commissioned by Peckham Space in collaboration with EQRA, which aims to document and contrast the changing landscape of our area.

EQRA was there to film some of the activity taking place in the sky above the Gloucester School playground last week.

The workshop runs from 12 midday until 4pm at Art In The Park, at Chumleigh Gardens (near to the café) in Burgess Park.  All are welcome, although children under 8 must be accompanied.

It’s organised by Peckham Space and South London Gallery, and will be visiting four venues across South East London to start a debate on urban environments and changing social histories.

Several artists will be on the tour speaking about their work including David Cotterrell who’s been collaborating with EQRA on a social history art project based around our area.

Although it’s free you do need to book in advance as spaces are limited.

Friends of Burgess Park, a group committed to protecting, promoting and enhancing the park, have launched a photography and short film competition. Open to all, the idea is to record the park as it goes through major change.

The aim is to record what Burgess Park means to locals and how we are affected by the changes, collecting the best images showing Burgess Park as it is now, as it develops and what it will become.

In March 2012, at the completion of the revitalisation, they will select the best photos for a final exhibition and a book.  You can check out some of the photos already submitted here: pictureburgesspark.posterous.com

Artist David Cotterrell will be creating a social history art project that aims to capture the transformation of our area. It’s a really original approach: a video installation featuring footage shot from an airborne, remote-controlled camera flying over our heads.

We are looking for residents who have lived in North Peckham for over 20 years to be involved in this social history project at Peckham Space.

Your stories will feature in a film of the area that will be on exhibition at Peckham Space from May – July 2011.
