Bus campaign breakthrough at last
Since EQRA was formed six years ago, one of our biggest issues has been transport. Top of the list, the 343 bus.
We have campaigned, and campaigned, and campaigned on the issue, lobbying TfL (Transport for London) and the Mayor to do something about the overcrowding and the lack of links to anywhere useful in Central London.
At long last, TfL have finally accepted they need to do something. They are proposing to introduce a second bus route along Southampton Way.
The new bus route will be the 136 which comes through Catford and Lewisham to Peckham. It will then follow the 343 route to Elephant & Castle.
But the 136 won’t go any further than Elephant. We will still have to change buses to get into town. Nevertheless, it may mean that after just 6 years of lobbying, the buses can cope making it easier to get to work in the mornings.
TfL are running a consultation exercise about their idea. They are holding a drop-in session at St Luke’s Church Hall, just off Chandler Way, on Thursday 13th February.
The session will be open from 5pm until 8pm. We encourage as many of you as possible to visit the drop-in session to let TfL know your views.
Please also fill in the consultation questionnaire, it’s online here: https://consultations.tfl.gov.uk/buses/routes-136-and-343/consult_view
EQRA will also be responding to the consultation and we would like to know what you think of TfL’s proposal. Please e-mail us: firstname.lastname@example.org
