Burgess Park reopens Saturday 21st July

After nearly a year without our park, we are very pleased that Burgess Park will at last reopen on Saturday 21st July following its makeover, just in time for the school summer holidays.

Not all of the park will reopen this month – the area west of Wells Way towards Camberwell Road will have to stay closed for a few more weeks, while newly-planted grass establishes itself.  It may be that some of the grass mounds in the area closer to us, between St. Georges Way and Albany Road, might also have to stay closed off for a few more weeks for the same reason.  Nevertheless, we will once again be able to access the park from St. George’s Way.  Now all we need is some summer weather!

Southwark Council kindly invited representatives from local tenants’ and residents’ associations, including EQRA, on a preview tour this morning to see how the park looks now.  Have a look at our photos on Flickr and see what you think!

EQRA has been in favour of the investment in Burgess Park, and we think the work which has been done will enable us to enjoy a much-improved park.  Southwark Council do have plans for many more improvements, which could be made in future if funding becomes available.
