At long last – the moment many of us have been waiting for.
The Tesco Express store on Southampton Way is now open. Finally we have somewhere that isn’t a half hour walk away where we can buy a fresh piece of fruit or veg, paper, bog roll and a bottle of wine or two.
The store is pretty spacious with a fresh bakery section (rolls, pastries, croissants etc), a pretty good wine and beer section and a quite a good magazine section too.
The cash machine to the side should also prove extremely useful.
Here’s hoping it’s the beginning of an upturn for local facilities and Southampton Way in general.
I too have been delighted at the arrival of Tesco on Southampton way UNTIL TODAY. I have been served a penalty notice for £60 for parking in the “customer” parking bay outside Tesco last week at around 11am. I’ve just been back there and yes, there is 30 mins parking for customers except between 10am and 1 for the goods deliveries. NO NOTICE of this either in store or on their windows, the signs are at each end of the bay.
This is predatory penalising by the council, and certainly neglect on Tesco’s part to not ensure that the restrictions are clearly marked. The duty manager’s shrugging comments about cones that keep getting moved are pretty pathetic. At the very least an A-board sign just inside the doors would alert new customers. Apparently loads of people have been ‘stung’ this way!
I am gutted for you, Lorna. Thank you so much for this warning: I know it was only a matter of time before I – and other EQ’ers – would have been clobbered for the same “crime”. I will try to put more pressure on the manager to do as you say and make it abundantly clear to customers that the parking bay is out of bounds between 10 and 1.
