EQRA have responded to London Buses’ recent consultations over their plans for route 343, and route 168 which terminates at Tesco on Old Kent Road. Disappointingly, their proposals consist of:
- Two additional journeys in the morning peak on route 343, towards City Hall only
- No change to route 168
EQRA has reiterated its concerns that the transport needs of North Peckham area are still not being addressed. The key issues are:
- Continued overcrowding on route 343
- Lack of direct transport links from the Southampton Way area to Central London
Overcrowding on routes 63 and 363
We have made a detailed submission, containing evidence which illustrates how heavily overcrowded our bus stops and buses are.
London Buses turned down our previous suggestions; firstly to introduce a rush hour shuttle bus to Elephant, and secondly to divert route 171 via Southampton Way.
Despite the lack of progress, we’re determined to continue pressing for improvements, and have suggested further ideas to London Buses.
One proposal is to extend route 168 beyond the Old Kent Road Tesco into our area. This would provide a direct link to Waterloo, Aldwych, Holborn, Russell Square, Euston and Camden (all stops that would have been on the Cross River Tram route).
London Travelwatch had already put this idea forward, but London Buses had turned it down claiming the cost could not be justified. We have urged them to reconsider this.
We have also asked them to look at either diverting route 148 or introducing a variant of route 12 to serve Southampton Way.
