Burgess Park has won £2 million specially set aside to help regenerate one of London’s Parks. It’s the only park to win this prize money which was set aside for a single park in the London Mayor’s ‘Help a London Park’ competiton.
Other local parks Camberwell Green and Dickens Square narrowly missed out on smaller funding amounts of £400K.
It’s a fantastic and long needed boost for the area and local residents. The £2 million promised by the mayor is being supplemented by an additional £4 million from match funding partnerships between Southwark Council and the New Deal for Communities scheme.
The Campaign was helped by a vocal Facebook Group which campaigned on the issue and to date has over a thousand members.
